Release: Preview 3 - Electric Feel

It's out a bit earlier than I planned, happy Friday!

The Air arcana is now available! Features a variety of air and electricity spells. Air-themed wizard towers are now available as a potential location, and added air and electric based items, creatures, and enchantments.

Other Spell Changes:

  • Heat aura now causes evaporatable features to evaporate, and makes you immune to the Overheated condition.
  • Cold aura (and other spells that apply cold to an area) now causes some steams and gases to turn into puddles. Cold aura now makes you immune to the Chilled condition.
  • Freeze is now a Level 2 spell.
  • Adding "mobile channeling" upgrade to channel spirits, lets you move without deactivating the spell.
  • You can now move while bubbled if you cast bubble on yourself using a wand, even if you don't know the bubble spell.
  • Adding upgrade to carcinization spell to carry over water spells while in crab form.
  • Decreased initial range and damage of banshee scream.
  • Decreased initial damage of fire burst.

Other Content Changes:

  • Added some new items and creatures in addition to the air and electric-based ones.
  • Summoned, mindless, and enthralled creatures under your control don't become hostile to you if you damage them.
  • Spellbooks now grant 6 upgrade points when you use them to upgrade a spell you already know. If the spells' upgrade cost is more than 6, it grants 1 free upgrade as before
  • Decreased mystic insights gained from artifacts.
  • Map generation changes:
    • Creatures' spell/ability attack damage increases as they level up, like their melee attack damage.
    • Animals should generate a lot less often in libraries, classrooms, or dining rooms (one or two may still occasionally show up, but much less often than they were before).
    • Mildly-improved versions (+1 damage, +1% accuracy) of weapons no longer generate. This was leftover unused functionality for having items generate at different levels (might return in a different form in the future).
    • Non-metal items will now no longer have the rusty or golden enchantments applied.
  • Miscellaneous backend math changes:
    • Damage done on collision is now based on additional distance that WOULD have been traveled if the collision hadn't happened, rather than total distance from the initial tile.
    • Tweaked values vary by +/-10% instead of +/-25%, and can't be reduced to 0.

UI Improvements:

  • You no longer receive warnings from stepping into embers, lava, or fire if you have Fire Walk With Me.
  • Adding a setting to change how quickly the map scrolls when the mouse is off the screen, and fixed an issue where the initial scroll was sometimes a bigger jump than it should be.
  • When you would deal no damage to a feature or wall, moving into it using the keyboard doesn't attack it and waste a turn. You can still try and attack it manually if you want.
  • Creature-targeting spells that let you target yourself now let you target yourself when casting them via wand.
  • Hotkeys:
    • Current hotkeys are now displayed on the set hotkey screen, and can be set via mouse in addition to keyboard.
    • The item amount displayed on a hotkey now lists the total amount of an item you have, even if it's split between multiple stacks, and continues to be usable even if one stack of that item is used up.
    • 0 (zero) works appropriately as a hotkey now.
  • Spells on the new game screen:
    • Show what the values of various stats will be based on your major/minor arcana choices rather than just their base value (eg fireball shows +3 damage if you selected fire as your major arcana and +1 if you selected it as your minor).
    • List the initial upgrades available for the spell.
  • Studying changes:
    • When studying, items that are in your stash are noted.
    • Spellbooks are now studied alongside other studiable items instead of having their own submenu from the desk (the old option will remain for already-started games).
    • Leaving screens brought up from the study desk takes you back to the study desk menu instead of the main gameplay screen.
  • Examine item improvements:
    • Enchantments now display any numerical bonuses they apply to an item on the examine screen.
    • Examine screen now shows the number of open enchantment "slots" on an item,  enchantments display which enchantment type they are, and examining a rune provides a description of the enchantment.
  • Spell Screen improvements:
    • You can use number keys on the spell screen to select that # spell on the list.
    • Spells that take multiple targets now list the number of targets they take.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed error on spell screen.
  • Made potion of fire resistance actually apply fire resistance, not homeostasis.
  • Reload button doesn't show anymore when examining items that have charges but don't take ammo.
  • The "low spell charges" tutorial no longer pops up when an enemy runs out of spell charges.
  • Enchantments that modify armor values on items now properly apply when calculating your character's total armor.
  • You can no longer swap locations with friendly immobile creatures.
  • Summoned creatures no longer drop death items.
  • Fixed navigating on stores' services screen using the keyboard.
  • Weapons should no longer generate with the "artifact" enchantment as their only enchantment.
  • Fixed issue where equipping an item with a ranged attack was causing the target info sidebar to get huge and be drawn off screen.
  • Some broken sources of celestial damage should apply properly now.
  • Dashing and charging should no longer move creatures into closed doors or gates.
